Introducing the instant Sunday Times bestseller that's captivating readers across the nation. Bonnie Garmus, author of 'Lessons in Chemistry', hails it as "Crisp, transportive, uplifting. The fresh, irreverent voice of Tibb Ingleby is sheer brilliance."
Meet Tibb Ingleby, a vagabond by birth who's never known the comfort of a permanent home. Her mother's wisdom echoes in her ears: "Make your own paradise, Tibb, since this world is no sweet place for people like us." Now, with her mother's untimely demise, young Tibb finds herself alone in the unforgiving landscape of medieval England.
As Tibb navigates through fields and forests, she encounters both friend and foe, discovering that in a world rife with superstition, people will believe almost anything. Seizing this opportunity, Tibb and her newfound companions hatch an audacious scheme - her most daring deception yet. But as their hoax gains momentum, it threatens to spiral out of control, drawing both eager crowds and dangerous enemies to their doorstep.
'A Little Trickerie' is a tour de force of originality, humour, and poignancy. It unveils a seldom-seen side of Tudor England, weaving a tale of belief, superstition, and unlikely kinship. At its heart stands Tibb - an unforgettable, distinctly unangelic heroine leading a ragtag band of misfits.
Annie Garthwaite, author of 'Cecily', praises Rosanna Pike as "a bright and bold new voice in historical fiction" who has created "a heart-catching character in bad girl trickster, Tibb". Ferdia Lennon, author of 'Glorious Exploits', describes it as "Striking, darkly funny and heartfelt", while Sandra Newman, author of 'The Heavens', declares it "A thrilling, joyous, intoxicating debut" with "a big heart, a subversive wit, and the most lovable protagonist I've come across in years".
Prepare to be enchanted by 'A Little Trickerie' - a blazingly original debut that will leave you spellbound from the very first page.

Sherlock & Pages is a little bookshop with a big heart. We are based in Frome, Somerset, England and curate lists of books in the areas we are passionate about – landscape, nature, history, and heritage. In short, the conservation of all we’ve inherited and all we are responsible to pass on. We aim to inspire and be inspired, to form a literary culture of care and passion about this precious planet we call home.
This is a shop where you might find something you haven’t seen before, and we like to think we’ve got something for everyone. We choose each of our books with care and for a reason. This is because our physical store is small but beautifully formed, holding only around 1200 titles at any one time. We try and recreate the feel of the shop wherever we are online, to reflect our niche categories and personality.
We have an active social media presence and aim to share our story with all our friends. The long-term goal is to build a hub for the books and writers we believe in. Who knows where our adventure will lead but by supporting Sherlock & Pages you’re helping us to add a further layer of magic to our little corner of the world. If you haven’t visited our physical store, one day you might just make a literary pilgrimage down to Somerset.
Our tagline is ‘Long Live the Hedgerows’ and our symbol a hibernating dormouse. If you want to support an independent with a unique character and which will share stories with you for years to come, then choose Sherlock & Pages. The world needs bookshops with soul, for they are ‘citadels of light.’
