Embark on a global arboreal adventure with Jonathan Drori's bestselling masterpiece, now available in paperback. This enchanting journey, lauded as "beautiful to behold and to read" by The Sunday Times, takes readers on a captivating exploration of 80 remarkable trees from across the world.
Drori, a passionate environmentalist, weaves together plant science, history, and cultural insights to reveal how trees are intricately woven into the fabric of human existence. From the romantic to the practical, each tree tells a unique story. Discover the intoxicating lime trees of Berlin's Unter den Linden boulevard, the eucalyptus-paved streets of 19th-century London, and the towering redwoods of California, whose secrets lie in the tiniest droplets of water.
Lucille Clerc's exquisite illustrations bring these arboreal tales to life, featuring an eclectic cast of characters including self-mummifying monks, tree-climbing goats, and mildly radioactive nuts. This informative and visually stunning odyssey combines scientific rigour with a wealth of quirky details, ensuring surprises for every reader.
Perfect for admirers of Peter Wohlleben's The Hidden Life of Trees, this book will inspire nature enthusiasts to embark on their own global expedition or simply visit their local botanical garden. Winner of the Woodland Books of the Year Awards 2018, Around the World in 80 Trees has been hailed as "an irresistible mix of science, culture, botany, history and vicarious travel" by the Sydney Morning Herald.
Join Drori as he follows in the footsteps of Phileas Fogg, uncovering the myriad ways trees offer us sanctuary, inspiration, and raw materials for everything from aspirin to maple syrup. This arboreal odyssey is truly "one of the most quietly beautiful books of the year" (Daily Mail) and "a book to take your time over" (Wired).

Sherlock & Pages is a little bookshop with a big heart. We are based in Frome, Somerset, England and curate lists of books in the areas we are passionate about – landscape, nature, history, and heritage. In short, the conservation of all we’ve inherited and all we are responsible to pass on. We aim to inspire and be inspired, to form a literary culture of care and passion about this precious planet we call home.
This is a shop where you might find something you haven’t seen before, and we like to think we’ve got something for everyone. We choose each of our books with care and for a reason. This is because our physical store is small but beautifully formed, holding only around 1200 titles at any one time. We try and recreate the feel of the shop wherever we are online, to reflect our niche categories and personality.
We have an active social media presence and aim to share our story with all our friends. The long-term goal is to build a hub for the books and writers we believe in. Who knows where our adventure will lead but by supporting Sherlock & Pages you’re helping us to add a further layer of magic to our little corner of the world. If you haven’t visited our physical store, one day you might just make a literary pilgrimage down to Somerset.
Our tagline is ‘Long Live the Hedgerows’ and our symbol a hibernating dormouse. If you want to support an independent with a unique character and which will share stories with you for years to come, then choose Sherlock & Pages. The world needs bookshops with soul, for they are ‘citadels of light.’
