Rumi - Poet of Joy and Love is an illustrated picture-book biography for young readers.
It introduces the life and teachings of the beloved thirteenth-century Persian poet Rumi. The story follows his childhood fascination with birds and books through to his life as a scholar, and shows how the loss of his closest friend Shams became the turning point that led him to his most enduring insight, that love exists within us and all around us.
Illustrated by award-winning Iranian-American artist Rashin Kheiriyeh with vibrant colour and ornamental Persian detail, the book was published to mark the 750th anniversary of Rumi's death and includes back matter with further biographical context, making it a warm and accessible introduction to Rumi's life and wisdom for children aged four to eight.
