The Pilgrim's Book Club

What is the Pilgrim's Book Club?

Welcome fellow pilgrim to our noble fraternity of literary wayfarers.

The Book Club is led by our co-owner, Luke Sherlock, and reflects the name of his Instagram account: @englishpilgrim. The club is a monthly literary adventure centred on the themes of Sherlock & Pages: nature, landscape, history and heritage themes. Together we will step onto wild footpaths, be immersed in historical tales, feel the wind on our brows and the earth beneath our feet. Both fictional and non-fictional books are selected.

At the end of the month two things happen:

  • Firstly, a live session is held on YouTube which you can join.
  • Secondly, for those who can’t join the live - a YouTube video will be posted exploring the themes of the book.

If Luke is on the footpaths this might even be a real life pilgrimage, further immersing readers in the landscapes and themes of the book under discussion. For example, we may take you to the Atlantic extremes of the British Isles, creep into forgotten medieval churches, or simply take time to reflect on a book whilst on a historic footpath.

Together we'll go on adventures.

How does it work and how do I sign up?

We list the Pilgrim's Book Club selections for at least 3 months into the future (see below). You can choose to buy all the books at once to save on shipping costs, take it one at a time or simply pick and choose. You don't have to buy from us but if you would like to it is a wonderful way to support our small independent bookshop and our YouTube endeavours.

Anyone is welcome to join the YouTube Live and view our content. We want to keep this simple, free and accessible. Updates will be announced on the Sherlock & Pages Instagram broadcast channel (named Pilgrim's Book Club) and via the weekly shop email. Luke will also keep people aware via his @englishpilgrim Instagram account.
