The Unreliable Nature Writer is a debut short story collection by Claire Carroll, published by Scratch Books.

The stories are by turns exhilarating, macabre and dreamlike, set in a world unsettled by environmental decline and rapid technological change, where characters try to hold onto intimate relationships even as the wider world grows stranger and more precarious.

Blending unsettling, surreal imagery with real tenderness, the collection is a playful yet pointed exploration of love, loss and humanity's uneasy relationship with the natural world. It was shortlisted for The White Review Short Story Prize and the Short Fiction Wild Writing Prize.
